What is a spinal cord injury and how will this condition affect me?
A spinal cord injury (SCI) occurs when nerve function between the brain and body is disrupted, leading to varying impairments in severity and location. Symptoms can include movement and sensation loss, breathing difficulties, spasms, bowel and bladder issues, pain, and changes in sexual function. Causes range from traumatic incidents like accidents to non-traumatic factors such as infections and degenerative diseases.
It’s often believed that functional gains following a spinal cord injury peak within the first 3-6 months, with therapy traditionally concentrating solely above the injury level. At West Coast Neuro our approach is different. We offer an innovative, evidence-based, and holistic therapy approach that targets both above and below the injury level. Our therapy aims to enhance mobility, strength, and overall well-being, fostering independence and reducing the risk of secondary complications.
